Mohéli

Mohéli, Comoros — the smallest and least developed of the Comoros islands, home to the country's only national park and a marine reserve where green turtles nest on quiet beaches.

Mohéli Marine Park protects nesting sites for green turtles — visit Itsamia beach at night during nesting season (roughly May to September) with a local guide for a respectful, low-impact viewing. The island has almost no tourist infrastructure, which is much of the appeal — Nioumachoua's mangrove-fringed islets are best explored by traditional outrigger boat.
