Jaco Island

Jaco Island, East Timor — a small uninhabited island off the country's easternmost tip, considered sacred by locals and ringed by some of the clearest water in Southeast Asia.

Reach Jaco from Valu Beach near Tutuala village by local fishing boat — there's no accommodation on the island itself, so most visitors day-trip and camp back on the mainland. Swimming and snorkeling are the draw; out of respect for local beliefs, visitors are asked not to stay overnight or disturb the sand.
